PINCHING LAND

A game for two or more players which needs a piece of 0.5 cm graph paper about A5 size. Alternatively a piece of paper can be covered with dots 0.5 cm apart to form squares. In either case a border must be drawn, although usually rectangular, it can be any shape providing only vertical and horizontal lines are used to mark out the border.

The idea is to gain more land than the opponent/s.

Toss a coin or cut cards to decide who starts first

Each player in turn draws a straight line two squares long or if on dotted paper, joins three dots, either horizontally or vertically. Once an area is fully enclosed and DOES NOT have any lines inside it the player who closes the area gains that land and marks each square with their mark.

When a player gains some land he has another go.

The game ends when there is no more land to be pinched with the winner being the player who has most squares with their mark on. It may need an actual count.

To help illustrate the play a series of moves are shown below.
